I am unemployed and yesterday, had to close my bank account. I have an outstanding loan with cash call and I called to see what arrangements I could make to pay it, when I get a job. The woman on the phone told me I had to pay this month, in other words, beg, borrow or steal, because I do not have it. She told me to ask my friends, huh! She told me if I do not pay, I will have to suffer the consequences, does anybody know what consequences she is talking about? They cannot garnish my paycheck, right? I know they can put it on my credit report, what else? I am planning to try to pay it this month, but if I don’t have a job or I just started a job, how will I pay?

But I could cash out my mutual funds. My 75 year old retired husband can’t afford it so won’t help. It would be in my name only. I’m not sure if I should go ahead and buy a house with the mutual funds or just be satisfied that we do have a mobile home, tho we pay lot rent. I’m always looking at houses. He’s advising against it, but he’d be willing to live with me in a new one.

So, I need a one time/short term loan, but am unemployed (was receiving unemployment from the state), have terrible credit, and my only asset is my paid-for auto (2001 Mitsubishi Eclipse). I need less than $1000 (probably $650/675) and I need it today. I’m from a very good family that will likely cosign or whatever but I can not borrow the money from them. And I don’t know what to do!!! Help please!
oh and should anyone know of an excellent Executive Assistant position in the area - I am a polished, poised professional with excellent experience, a diverse background, and credible references…
Well..? Where? How much will I get for it?? I have a 2year old IBM T40 loaded with XP & MS Suite, etc… ? And if you can’t give details don’t bother attempting to give advice (as it definitely did not answer any question).

What generally happens is when I see the client - when you go through a lawyer’s office you may see the paralegal secretary who will take you through the initial stuff, then you will meet the conveyancer who goes through the documents. Should I be concerned when somebody says that to me - because suddenly I have no right of recourse if the roof caves in tomorrow? It’s become practice in South Africa that every standardised estate agents’ agreement has got a “voetstoets” clause - people don’t even know what it means and they sign it. Now I don’t know what the caller is talking about when she mentions the “vast amount” outstanding - if there is an amount outstanding that’s probably not for her account, it might relate to the developer. When you’re signing that lease always with the mortgage documentation and the security documentation - upfront try and work your way out of what could be a problem. If you don’t achieve either of those two the condition dies - if the condition is not fulfilled the agreement dies - so there may be an opportunity to get her deposit back because there is no sale agreement any more by operation of law. read more

If the cost of money turns up higher or will be raised to a level higher than the inflation rate on our products, then we must stop hoarding and start selling our stocks. If central banks use their monetary policies to raise interest rates as a means to check inflation, then we have no choice but to pay our loans and interest-bearing borrowing. Those who represent economies with large investments in financial markets will opt for an increase in rates to prevent further loss of their money’s value in financial markets resulting from inflation. If an economy is deriving four times more volume of business from financial markets than from the production of real goods and services (GDP), you can be sure the central banks of these economies will protect their financial markets more than they will protect their markets for real goods and services, when squeeze turns to crush. On the other hand, central banks which represent economies more focused on the growth of their real economy-GDP and Current Account Balance-than growth and yield in their financial markets, will stick to an increase in interest rates just high enough to prevent speculative fever in commodities and goods but low enough to prevent closure of factories, unemployment and recession. read more

The increases by American Airlines, United Airlines and Delta Air Lines affect the carriers’ fuel surcharges, which now total $130 round trip on many flights. WASHINGTON — The number of newly laid off workers seeking unemployment benefits dropped far more than expected last week. WASHINGTON — People taking out credit cards, home mortgages, auto loans and other loans would be notified when they are offered higher interest rates because of poor credit histories, under a plan federal regulators proposed. The auction — the seventh of its kind — drew bids for less than the $50 billion being made available. read more

PORTSMOUTH — Lodging Econometrics, a global authority for hotel real estate, announced in its 2008 Outlook for the Lodging Industry that at the end of the fourth quarter of 2007, 5,438 projects, representing 718,387 guest rooms, were in the construction pipeline. In the fourth quarter, the number of new projects announcements reached a cyclical high of 951 projects, or 116,590 rooms, a clear reflection of optimistic developers who anticipate the lending markets will have stabilized and approached normalcy when they are ready to seek financing. As late as the fourth quarter, developers hoped that the residential real estate mortgage and lending crisis would soon be resolved and not seriously interfere with lending for hotels going forward, nor slide over and affect the broader economy. While hotel developers might have successfully waited out a difficult, yet contained lending crisis, December and January statistics show that the crisis is no longer contained. Since the 2003 bottom, only 2004 and 2005 saw year-over-year demand grow in excess of 3 percent, while after the 1992 bottom, demand growth exceeded 3 percent in seven of the following eight years. read more

Our long standing position is that the ongoing asset price deflation, debt deflation, now with rising unemployment, falling demand and recession will lead to further erosion in the purchasing power of the dollar and thus to more inflation. Deflationistas have repeatedly called for a deflation spiral and all-goods prices declines for the past several years, since at least 2005 . Before one can make a claim as to whether it’s inflation, deflation, or hyperinflation lurking behind door number two, we have to agree as to what inflation, deflation, and hyperinflation mean. Clearly we are seeing price deflation in asset prices–stocks, housing and soon commercial real estate–and marked-down consumer goods as the Monthly Payment Consumer buckles under the combined pressures of rising inflation and unemployment. read more

Citigroup announced a steep cut in its stock dividend and another big investment by foreign investors on Tuesday after taking more write-downs related to subprime securities and posting a $9. The Kuwait Investment Authority, Capital Research and Management, Citigroup’s biggest shareholder, and the New Jersey Division of Investment also made large investments. And it sold ownership stakes it held in Redecard, a Brazilian company in the credit card industry, and an investment advisory arm of Nikko Cordial, a Japanese brokerage it agreed to buy last spring. Citigroup’s board agreed to cut the stock dividend to 32 cents from 54 cents, reversing a position it staunchly held for the last few months. While revenue in its domestic consumer business rose 6 percent, higher credit losses and credit costs led to a loss of $432 million. And as rising unemployment adds to the gloomy talk about a recession, Citigroup executives set aside billions of dollars more to cover additional losses on home equity loans, credit card debt and personal loans. read more

Since last March - at a time when the Administration was assuring Americans that the housing problem was “contained” - she has warned about the economic consequences of rising foreclosures and she announced policies to address the problem before it became a crisis. On December 5, 2007, Hillary became the first presidential candidate to say that it was time to consider an economic stimulus plan and on January 11, 2008, she was the first leading Democratic candidate, to offer a fiscal stimulus package, which included $110 billion in measures to jumpstart our economy. In addition, Senator Clinton proposed to temporarily empower state housing financing agencies to help families refinance unworkable mortgages and temporarily increasing the portfolio caps at Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, and enabling them to purchase larger loans in high-cost areas. Hillary’s plan calls for establishing a national broadband strategy; creating a $50 billion Strategic Energy Fund; doubling the research budgets at the major federal agencies; strengthening education from pre-K to post-graduate study; making the R&D tax credit permanent; and restoring integrity to science by ending the Bush Administration’s war on science. Her American Health Choices Plan will help lower the burden on middle class families and ensure our ongoing economic competitiveness by aggressively cutting healthcare costs and finally covering every single American - no one will be left out. read more

When he bought those buildings from Equity Office Properties, he more than doubled the size of his real estate portfolio and used only $50 million of his own money to do so; he borrowed $7 billion to finance the rest of the purchase. Macklowe’s predicament marks the denouement of an unprecedented four-year period in which developers threw gobs of money at real estate as prices for office towers, especially in Manhattan, doubled and tripled almost as fast as sales could be recorded. Analysts, bankers and developers are not predicting the imminent collapse of the commercial real estate market, a reprise of the early 1990s, when property values dropped by half, vacancies soared and banks were crushed under the weight of soured real estate loans. Macklowe’s buildings on an apparent bet it might snare some great real estate on the cheap, bankers and real estate executives said. Macklowe about a deal for Macklowe Properties’ coveted Drake Hotel site, at Park Avenue and 56th Street, an executive involved in the talks said. Macklowe took a beating during a severe real estate recession, ultimately returning both the Riverbank West tower on 42nd Street and the Hotel Macklowe, now known as the Millennium Broadway Hotel, to the lenders. read more
